I'm pretty sure I've got a version of every Nintendo handheld since the GB Pocket minus the newest one (GB Micro). I want (need, will die unless I get it, will not hesitate to murder for it) a PSP.
But not because of the gaming. Not entirely at least. The whole idea of the UMD movies fascinates and intrigues me, and when I do finally get my PSP (and loe, the riders of the Apocalypse sallied forth and began their seperate conquests) it will be used primarily to watch movies. I have a PS2 and DVD player and a computer that (in thoery at least) will play DVDs and all work fine, but I want(!) this stupid little handheld.
Is it good that a handheld gaming devide is no longer considered just a gaming devide? That it can now be used to play MP3s and UMDs and God-knows-what-else? Are they shoving too many functions into a handheld? Is it possible to shove too many functions into a handheld?
And don't even get me started on the darned touch-screen on the NintendoDS... **grumble**
Sorry to break it to you its not that great they messed up with the Mp3 becuse the disk is too small it can hold only 5 songs and if you wach a movie you need headphones But it is still a great gaming device it has great graphics(better than most PS2 games) good games
and its a handheld system but i love my PSP and i dont want any thing else
A great gaming device should not be judged WHATSOEVER for it's ability to do things besides game. It destroys the point. It co-mingles entirely seperate ideas, and now it's what people have come to expect.
It really sickens me, because sytems should be bought to play, not watch and listen.

When it comes to handhelds, I believe I know what i'm talking about...But that's probably just me.
1. The BEST handheld system is.....The Palm Tungsten T5!!! Okay, okay, I know, so it isn't exactly what you expected. But it is a handheld system because it can play many, many games, store phone numbers, photos, and addresses, play music, movies, and ROM's, and can even be used as a music mixer (with the right programs)! Thus, I prefer Palm Pilots over actual handheld systems IN SOME ASPECTS. Do not take this to mean that I hate all other systems.
2. This system, in my eyes, ranks JUST BARELY below the Palm Tungsten in function, but it has far better games, so, if you are looking for a GAMING ONLY system, then purchase the Nintendo Dual Screen! Okay, so, I assume you were expecting the PSP to be here. However, I don't like the PSP as much as the DS. The DS has better games (even though the graphics are worse), famous franchises such as Mario and Metroid and someday soon even Zelda, Animal Crossing, and Harvest Moon, TWO screens (not one, but TWO LARGE BACKLIT SCREENS), and a touch screen. It also has wireless capabilities.
3. The iPod Nano It can play movies, listen to music, store lots of data, play some games, and store photos. 'Nuff said.
4. Once again, The boulder in the woods behind my house takes 3rd place. You know why.
5. Last and still definitely least is the PSP, also known as the Pretty Small (insert-male-reproductive-organ-here). I insult this system so because it holds no promise for the future. Most of its games so far are remakes of games originally for the PS2. Also, it fails as an mp3 player and a movie player, and you are better off just getting a palm pilot or iPod Nano for these things. The graphics are, I must admit, amazing. However, The games target mostly mature audiences and are lacking as far as gameplay is concerned. They are short, unexciting for the most part, and have bad storylines.
Chris Johnson Out Again.

Chillin, nonononono. Can't chill while ignorance run amuck.
Sure, some of the games on said plam thingies can be mildly entertaining, but they hold no real gaming experience. Neither does the iPod nano (corporate slaw-mongers).
Slaw-slang for bs, and many other things including anger, disgust, etc.

Chris i am sorry but you have the wierdest outlook on things

well maybe not but PSP is going to get the expansion which will include a browser to surf internet i just love that you can go to a cafe and surf internet on your PSP
PSP really does not have that great of games but thats because its reletavly new and like we all remember (exsept me because i wasnt here) when PS1 or even PS2 and Xbox came out the games wernt that great it was after awile that the game got much better and the systems get much more popular
Are you kiddin? Halo1 Halo2 Half-Life Counter-Strike Morrowind Fable Psychonaut It has some pretty awesome titles, don't try to lie; these are some GREAT games.

If I were to buy a handheld system for gaming, that's all I'd want on it. Gaming. I don't want some nifty little businessman's electronic wet dream with cell phone capabilities, games, DVD player, mp3 player, knife to slit your wrists, calendars, and whatever. I want games, the rest is just fluff for distraction.
I'm not sure of the line-up for new stuff yet, but Nintendo's been doing good recently. Only complaint I have is that the batteries charge instead of just change out in their new ones.
And the DS's games have all been geared toward flaunting the touchscreen, not using it to enhance game play. The only one I've played that does a decent job of using both screens is Mario.
this is to two post ago. psp has dub edition, coded arms, and several otheer very good games
and also to post on the so called great xbox games. almost all of thoes games are on the cpu and tend to be better on the cpu and to name a few reasons:Mods, FREE internet(well in a sense), and did i mention mods thousands of mods
