you cannot compare an FPS to an RPG. it makes no sense to even try for three reasons: 1. They are completely different kinds of games (different gameplay, story(usually), controls, etc.) 2. You just can't. 3. RPG's are usually judged on length, interactivity, secrets, and storyline FPS's are usually judged on controls (responsiveness, ease of control, etc.), graphics, framerate, and multiplayeritivityness (yes I did make up that word and it is MINE AND YOU CANNOT STEAL IT)

My favorite is (obviously) the Halo series, out of FPS's. I personally think that the best RPG I have ever played is Final Fantasy VII. Favorite puzzle game: The Myst series (Honorable Mention: Syberia) 3rd person shooter: Star Wars Battlefront II. Platformer: Psychonauts Dance game (ok, take a guess): DDR series MMORPG: Runescape (yes Vitaly, Runescape.) Fighting game: Super Smash Bros. Melee 2d-platformer-RPG-thingy:Castlevania series Other: Mario Party series (good minigames), Wario Ware (funny as heck) The End.

The point is that the aren't 'compared' to each other. At least not in any way you may be thinking. They are all lumped into the 'best-game pending' category at this point. THEY CAN BE COMPARED. It is safe to say that Halo was better than Mech Assault. It is in this way games of different play can be compared.

All games can be compared on a few attributes (entertainment, sound, graphics, playability, ease of control, and sheer awesomeness), but they cannot be compared in exactly the same way. So don't even try and compare them on terms of, "well, halo has more levels than morrowind" or "guild wars has less vehicles than mech warrior". That's just redicolous. (yes, I misspelled ridiculous on purpose)

It is largely common-place to compare games based on over-all quality (which, in all meanings, determines what a good game is). To say that these games can't be compared in terms of the over-all experience is absolutely absurd.
If a game a is bad and game b is good, then there is no conflict in saying that game b is is better than game a, regardless of what genres they are.
Let's use examples. There is NO problem with saying that Halo 2 is better than Metal Gear Solid Acid (omfg, make it go AWAY!). Almost the entire gaming community agrees on that.
