I think its ok the way it is actually, although they really should get more restrictions on having weapons more lethal than things like pistols. No one should be allowed to have a sniper rifle except in wars. Woohoo smart topics!

You can carry a weapon, but it takes years to actually get the license with tests and background checks, not to mention enough training with every different model you purchase to ensure that you know what you're doing.  And safety locks would be mandatory.

Of course, you're always going to have a black market in this kind of thing though; there's always going to be people who find a way around it.  Ideally, no civilian would be allowed to own a gun, but I don't like the idea of only the government having fire power.

Heck with it, why can't we go back to swords?! And why do organizations focus more on WEAPONRY than DEFENSE?

The idea is to hit the other side hard enough, and fast enough and be able to keep the attack going long enough that they'll crumple without being able to launch any kind of counter-attack.  That's the idea behind a few Magic decks I've played with.  The only problem is, if they're able to defend against you, you're screwed.

And yes, swords are cooler.

If i owned a country Id go for swords and defense all the way. Like Id get people to develop a shield that blocks all high speed projectiles os the only way to fight my army would be melee. OHHHH yeah.

I don't think you got my point, RedWinter. I said that i would develop a shield that reflects high-velocity stuff so that the only way to hurt soldiers would be *gasp* melee weapons.

hmmm... just remember such soliders might need genetic engneering to make up for the lack of ranged combat. bullets will eventually wear down a shield or grenades or artillery will do the same

I dont mean a metal shield I mean a shield that uses the energy of projectiles hurles at it to bounce them off. Maybe if people focuesed more on building defenses instead of superweapons that pollute the world, this would be possible.
