Java and stuff

Java....We have all heard of it, but we may not know what it is.
I don't care if you want to know what it is, you can go find that out yourself.

This idea was actually Matt's idea, but since he hasn't said anything about it I figured I would

I only started this column because I am interested in getting a group of people together to write programs in Java. Matt suggested that we try to get school funding for this so-called "Java Club" next year and actually open it to the public so that we may create a team of Java developers to write games and various other Java-based programs and gain an understaning of the basics of object-oriented programming.

Obviously, if we get school funding, we can put that towards stuff like books for the class and stuff. The only problem will be finding a place to host the club. A computer lab seems like a likely choice, but we still need a teacher's supervision and approval of our plan before this can be put into action. If you are interested, either reply or vote on the poll I have supplied.

Thanks for your input.

Any kind of programmin club would be fanatastic, actually.  The VB classes at the HS are a complete joke, no one in there takes them seriously/cares.

If you guy are serious about this, count me in.  Try going through the Tech Center, though- I think they'd be more receptive to the idea.

the only prerequisite ti starting a programming or java club would be the fact taht one or two of us would have to be experienced in a widespread language. but the forerunners is already learning java so this club could be establiched in the near future

Alrighty then. To get this going, we should talk to the teachers of our tech-center classes about the whole programming club idea. We need a room with computers, a teacher to host the club, and approval from the school. Let's start with getting a teacher to host the class. I will talk to Mr. Sparks and Mrs. Hall about it, so you guys talk to your teachers about it and post their replies.

Sounds fun, as long as they don't use that as some sort of way to force us to join FBLA.

If it were a club, I don't see how they could.  Though I suppose we would need a teacher/adviser to sponsor us if we were to use the Tech Center's computers.  And FBLA's not that bad.
